Resort Information
"The exceptionally beautiful villages of la Grave and Villar d'Arene welcome you. The 'Reine Meije' - Queen of the mountain range - towers above the villages of La Grave and Villar d'Arene and their hamlets from an altitude of 3982 metres.
In the winter you will find a ski area, unique in Europe with 2150 metres vertical of off-piste skiing, well known all over the world." La Grave Website
This is a resort for hard-core skiiers with whom it has much respect. The listings above for the types of pistes are not an error! This resort is almost entirely off-piste and is not really that suitable for beginners or intermediates at all.
It is quite close to other resorts however which are either skiable to/from or bus back. There's almost nothing to do off the slopes unless you fancy many games of chess with yourself! There are a few bars for the evening time however.
